Why Do I Have the Best Ideas at 3 a.m.?

Have you ever noticed how life loves to mess with you? You’ll feel sick for weeks, finally book a doctor’s appointment, and then wake up on the day feeling great! Or you’ll be hating your hair for months—and the one day you finally get that hair appointment? Yep, you have a good hair day! It’s like the universe has a crazy sense of humor. lol.

And let’s not even talk about those 3 a.m. epiphanies. I don’t know about you, but at 3 a.m., I’m certain I’ve cracked the code to life. My brain is buzzing with what feels like the most brilliant ideas ever. But then 9 a.m. rolls around, and suddenly I’m not so sure why I thought whatever was the most brillanat idea ever.

But here’s what I’ve figured out—those 3 a.m. moments happen because, for the first time all day, things are actually quiet. Think about it: no news, no work deadlines, no social media drama. It’s just you and your thoughts, free from the usual noise of the world. That’s when the real magic happens.

It’s kind of like yoga, right? You get on the mat, find your breath, and for those precious minutes, it’s just you in the moment—calm, centered, and clear. No distractions. And that’s when you can really connect with yourself. So, of course, when the world finally goes quiet at 3 a.m., that’s when your brain gets a chance to stretch and breathe a little. It’s like a mini yoga session for your mind.

But here’s the kicker: just because you have a great idea at 3 a.m. doesn’t mean you should act on it right away. Trust me on this. Sleepy brain ideas can be wild. So instead of jumping into action, I’ve learned to wait. This has been super, duper hard for me and is still a work in progress. Let the idea sit, and check in with it in the daylight. If it still seems like a winner, then maybe it’s time to roll with it. If not, well, it was fun while it lasted.

So here I am, finally launching this blog—something I’ve been planning forever—and what happens? Writer’s block! Classic, right? It’s kind of funny, especially if you know me, because I always have something to say. Well, unless I’m in one of my introverted phases, but that’s another story.

For now, I’m just reminding myself that—like those 3 a.m. ideas or the quiet on the yoga mat—the words will come when they’re ready. Sometimes, we all just need a little bit of quiet to let things fall into place.

While you can choose to laugh or cry … I choose laughter!

What about you? Do you get those middle-of-the-night flashes of brilliance? Or is it just me over here solving life’s problems at 3 a.m.?
