Today marks eight months since my stroke, and I woke up determined to change my mindset. But as I look back, I realize there are still so many pieces I haven’t even begun to process. I’m exhausted, yet here I am—still fighting, still moving forward, one step at a time. Maybe that’s enough for now. Today, on Veterans Day, my heart is with all who have served, especially my dad, Mervyn Hurwitz. Growing up, I didn’t ask much about his time in the Coast Guard, but through stories from my husband, I’ve learned just how proud—and kind—my father is. Known as “Smiley” in the service, he faced challenges with grace, and his gentle spirit has always shone through, showing me what true kindness looks like. Thank you, Dad, for your strength, your smile, and for teaching me that sometimes the greatest courage is in kindness.
